Default cannot send email. Did Microsoft change the outgoing port?

Hello,

I was up ‘til the wee hours of the morning trying all of your suggestions. I
backed my computer up before experimenting so that I could restore my system
in the event of a problem.

I totally uninstalled Norton 360 and all email scanning software. I also
reconfigured my POP3 settings. Unfortunately I am still unable to send email
via Outlook Express.

On May 10th 2007 I had reconfigured my MSN email account to the new “live”
settings as per a Microsoft tech. These settings worked flawlessly until two
weeks ago. Odd eh…?

Below are the instructions that the Microsoft tech had sent me:

To reconfigure your MSN POP3 account in Outlook Express:

1. Start Outlook Express.
2. On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Accounts', and then click the
'Mail' tab.
3. Click 'Add', and then click 'Mail'.
4. Type your display name, and then click 'Next'.
5. In the 'E-mail Address' box, type your complete e-mail address
(ex: )
6. Select the POP3 server option. Use the following server
information:

In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) box, type:
pop3.live.com
In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box, type:
smtp.live.com

7. Click 'Next'.
8. In the 'User Name' box, type your complete e-mail address. (ex:
)
9. In the 'Password' box, type your account password.
10. Click 'Next', and then click 'Finish'.
11. You will be brought back to the Internet Accounts window. Make
sure the account that you just set up is highlighted then click on
'Properties'
12. Under 'Servers' tab, check 'My Server Requires Authentication'
13. Click the 'Advanced' tab. Under Server Port numbers, select
'This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming and
Outgoing mail'.
14. Make sure that the Incoming mail port is set to 995 and
Outgoing mail port is set to 25.
15. Click 'Ok', then 'Close'.

You have now completely set up an MSN e-mail account. To retrieve your
e-mail messages you must be connected to the Internet. If you are already
connected, please click on the Send/Receive button.

These are the settings that I am still using.

Computers are so much fun aren’t they? ; )

Thank you!
-Curtis-
