Whose disc space is "exceeded", mine or the recipient's? I would guess the

send yourself a single .jpg image, and check the filesize of the email when
it arrives
powerpoint slideshow occupies much more than its filesize when encoded to be
sent as an attachment. any non text characters in attachments, images
executables pps pdf are replaced by strings that allow the attachment to be
sent. email is text only, despite the end result.
5mb + encoding 10MB
put the large file on a web server and send the receiver a link to that.

Thanks Bob and Ron for the information.
I'd still have liked to have known who's "disk space " was exceeded.
BTW, the E-Mail eventually was delivered to the recipient without any
further action on my part.......
and Bob, may I ask what is the procedure for "put the large file on a web
server and send the receiver a link to that?

temporary problem

A persistent transient failure is one in which the message as
sent is valid, but persistence of some temporary condition has
caused abandonment or delay of attempts to send the message.
If this code accompanies a delivery failure report, sending in
the future may be successful.

X.4.5 Mail system congestion

The mail system was unable to deliver the message because the
mail system was congested. This is useful only as a persistent
transient error.

That would "add up", Mike. The E-Mail eventually went through without any
action on my part (as I've said) nor on the part of the recipient AFAIK.
I must make a note of that 452 error!

When you get "Server Response:" in an OE error message, that's the error
message directly from the mail server.

For Sending, you can get a list of SMTP error codes (e.g. the 452) he

For the enhanced codes (e.g. 4.4.5) are listed he

Many ISP give a webspace as part of the package
if you put the file on your webspace,
something like
http:// users.isp.com/~myusername
you can send the link to the file

download the .pps file 5MB.

in short mail, sends fast, and gives the receiver the option of downloading
a very large file, instead of tying up email downloading things they may not
want
50megs.com is a free host that gives 50megs of user space (as the name
suggests) my son uses it

Links broken on purpose, those links should not exist

likely the server's file space was exceded, the ads say things like 'get 5
20mb mailboxes' the receivers may have been full of junk emails, large
ppshows,
