A friend of mine is running XP Home on a Dell computer that is about 1
yr old, all she does is surf the web and send emails, no one else uses this computer. About 2 weeks ago all of her forwarded pictures were being received with a blank box and the red X. (not attachments just pictures with text below them) I went to see what the problem was and somehow "send pictures with messages" wasn't checked. (under toolsoptionssendHTML settings) I checked the box and tested it, everything was fine. By the time I got home (15 minutes) she had forwarded me a couple of emails and once again, blank boxes with the red x. I called her on the phone and had her look under toolsoptionssendHTML settings to see if the box was still checked, and it wasn't. I told her to check it and hit "OK" and close it out, then had her forward me a couple of emails with pics and everything was fine. Now, a day later, blank boxes AGAIN! How is this box unchecking itself? BTW, I ran a virus and adware/spyware scan, no virus' a couple of pieces of adware which I deleted. |

Settings that become unchecked may be caused by one or more of the following
programs. There are probably others that will do it as well. Ad-aware's Ad-Watch IBM Access Connections McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware Norton AV Spyware Blaster Spybot Tools IE Tweaks Spybot- Teatimer Spysweeper Spyware Doctor Windows Defender Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions. In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you reinstall Zone Alarm. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA wrote in message ups.com... For what she does the XP firewall is all she needs. Another friend of hers downloaded the CA firewall and virus protection because it's free with Road Runner. (her ISP) BTW, the XP firewall can be turned on and off? If so, how? |

That can cause problems, but not likely this one. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA |
