When trying to launch Active Sync to enable my PDA and laptop to speak to
each other, I get an error message telling me to go to Help of Active Sync. When I do this it then tells me that I should run OUTLOOK and set it as the default mail client. How???? I've tried various ways , all to no avail. Any tips gratefully received |

Hi Stephen,
Do you have Outlook installed -- not (just) Outlook Express? Posting to this OE group suggests there might be a misunderstanding. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Stephen930" wrote in message ... Outlook is part of Office (with Word, Excel, etc.). You have to buy it.
It's not available for a free download. If in doubt, go to control panel, Add/Remove Programs. Office will show up as Microsoft Office. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Stephen930" wrote in message ... Well thats answered one problem. Well things are a little further on.
I do have Outlook on my laptop. It is as yet not active. When I try to do this, it asks for the Product key. As this has been changed by Microsoft when the original version of XP was about to time expire, I do not have it as it was typed directly onto the page when I was given it. How do I interrogate the computer to give up this info. a free download of Jellybean produced a key that didn't work which I can only presume was the original key prior to the input. Office is not part of Windows XP.
Nor does it use the same key. Purchase of Office retail cd or a disk provided by your pc manufacturer are the normal methods to obtain Office or Outlook and a 25 digit key for activation. Is it possible that you lost or misplaced the Office CD ? As far as interrogating the pc for the Office key, if not activated, its not present. ..winston "Stephen930" wrote in message ... : Well things are a little further on. : : I do have Outlook on my laptop. I do have other elements of Office working. Excel, Word etc, it's just
Outlook I need to register. When these are opened, I very quickly see a key on the page just before the application opens. If this Key is common to all Office products, can I: a) automatically use this key and b) capture this key somehow, as it opens too fast to be able to read it. The laptop was bought pre - owned, so I do not have CD or box. "...winston" wrote: Office is not part of Windows XP. Nor does it use the same key. A KeyFinder may be able to find the Office key, though if an OEM it may report an incorrect key(see b.)
If an OEM version: a. and preinstalled, the original owner has/had the key and/or cd. b. the company that placed the software on the machine may have used an image for the entire hard drive contents. The key in the registry and possibly the Office key Jellybean(?) found was their key. If it did not work, you need the key provided to the original owner. You've yet to mention if this was an OEM version or a retail version. - If retail, you should have received the cd as part of the transfer of software. Registering Office does not require a key, activation does. Finally, are you sure Outlook is part of the Office version you have. It is not included in all Office versions. You might wish to move further discussion to the appropriate Office forum(this group is for Outlook Express) Good Luck. ...winston "Stephen930" wrote in message ... :I do have other elements of Office working.
