Cant send and receive
This AM we had a power outage of a second or two which shut down the
computer. At the time we were using Outlook Express and the main identity. When we rebooted and went back to OE 6.0 we could not send or receive email because OE presented a logon pop-up that asked for a password. There is no password requirement for this user. I even added a password in Manage Identities and that would not work either. BTW, switching to a second identity in OE, everything works normally. This is a home stand alone computer. I expect that I need to reinstall OE, but when I try through updates, MS tells me that everything is up to date and I cannot go further. Anyone have any ideas of what I need to do? -- Bob J |

For the OE logon password:
Your ISP should be able to tell you, or see this site for a tool to retrieve your e-mail account password: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mailpv.html For an identity password: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#delnopass And: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823301 If all else fails, judging what you posted, create a new identity. If it works OK, import your messages , Address Book etc. , and when you're convinced everything is working, delete the old identity. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Bob J" wrote in message ... Thanks for your ideas. Unfortunately... However, I noticed that the log-on
popup was pointing to a numeric address. Went in and changed it's SMTP address back to pop.charter.net and everything downloaded. All seemed well. But the adress of the mail server keeps going back to the numeric address if I go into IE. This is just wierd. Those are your server settings, not a password. Are you seeing 127.0.0.1 per
chance? This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. Bob
That is caused by your Anti Virus set to scan incoming and outgoing emails. Disable that option in your AV. You will still be protected with your resident AV program. -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged.
