Default Main Identity contacts

In setting up a new system, I have copied the address book from my old
machine to the new default location on the new computer but the addresses
don't show up in OE. I have the TOM.WAB located in C:\Documents and
Settings\Tom\Application Data\Microsoft\Address folder but when I open OE
and check the Address book, it only shows addresses that been replied to
since I set up the new computer. These turn out to be address that are
listed in the Main Identity Contacts and I see no mention of Tom's Contacts
with almost 1000 names and groups. If I use the Explorer to find the
TOM.WAB file and open it manually, I see both the Main Identity Contacts
(few) and Tom's Contacts (many). I need to be able to access Tom's Contacts
in OE,.

I bought this laptop from Best Buy and it was a floor/demo model. They
supposedly removed all their demo softsware and set up my logon as Tom.
But, when it boots up, it comes up in a user (named Kiosk) that I can't
delete because they didn't provide me with the password. I always have to
log off that identity and log onto Tom. I think this is what is causing the
problem in Address Book. Unfortunately, I am in Asia and can't get back to
that store for a few more weeks.

Any help will be appreciated,

Tom

Try going to File | Import | Address Book and then point to the wab file.
Make sure its not read only.

Thanks Steve. That did it! It's strange to import addresses from the same
file I was trying to import them into but it worked.

Now if you can guide me to a way to have it boot directly to MY identity
instead of one that I don't have a password for, I"ll be all fixed up.

Thanks again,

Tom

If you can find out what the long Identity number is for that Identity, then
you can delete it in the registry under this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities

but you might want to leave well enough alone.

Steve,
Tom is talking about a passworded XP user.

Tom,
You need to delete the passworded user.

Ron,

Yes, I need to delete that account. But, it is password protected and I
can't delete it without logging off it which requires a password.

Frank,

Thanks for that tip but I seem to have gotten off the OE track.

I am not as worried about an OE Identity as I am about deleting a Windoes
USER that I don't have a password for. That may be a question for another
news group. As I said, it boots up as the other person without asking me
for a password. Then, I have to switch to my username. It's a PITA.

Thanks,

Tom

Boot into Safe mode as Administrator and remove the old user. See if it
will let you without having a password.
