Default Background midi sound problem

That's a negative value. Try resetting it before sending to 0 and then
test it in your Outbox.

Here's the result:

BGSOUND balance=0
src="cid:007a01c73858$60a87a00$6401a8c0@ARTSVAIO" volume=-9640

Is 'volume=-9640' okay?

Try a CTRL-F2 on the messages and check the volume setting for when
the midi files were sent in the BGSOUND tag.

Bruce,

- Can't hear it while composing
- Can't hear it if I open the Sent email
- Can't hear it on my second computer (but if I look at Properties
Details Message source, the midi file *is* embedded

Now it gets even stranger:
- I just tried composing an email with background midi in my second
computer, and I can't hear it!
- I sent it to my primary computer, but when I open it I can't hear
it. - Just to see I re-sent the email, then cranked up Thunderbird
and downloaded that email from my ISP. Thunderbird does not support
embedded sound, but the midi file was there as an attachment, and it
played!

Again, on both computers background WAV files play normally.

How could this be occurring on two separate machines, with separate
installs of OE?? I'm baffled.

Is it conceivable that a needed registry entry has been stripped it
both machines? I use the same registry cleaner in both, RegVac. (The
program has never given me any problems before, though, and I've used
it for several years.)

This is a poser to say the least, and I'm not sure I can help, but
you don't hear the music while you are composing, correct?

Do you hear it in Sent Items after you send it? What if you send it
to yourself?

Since you have access to another computer, what happens if you
create it on that one and send it to the problem one?

Try creating a new identity and see if it works there.

File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If
all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the
old identity and delete it.

Default Background midi sound problem

Jim,

The SW Synth value was set at zero in both computers.

Problem solved! Thanks!

Hopefully, you are aware you can check that value before sending by clicking
on the Edit tab at the bottom of the Compose Message window and looking for
this tag BGSOUND balance=0 src="filepath to soundfile" and setting the
volume to zero (0).
