Hello,
After doing some research on the web and usenet, I've learned that OE cannot open e-mails with .MSG extensions. In order to do so, one requires Outlook. This is correct, right? My question is this: I forward e-mails as attachments from my place of work that uses Outlook to my home computer that has OE. When I go to open attachment in the e-mail, sure enough it fails because it says it doesn't recognize the file type (.msg). Why is it that merely forwarding the e-mail as an attachment turns the attachment into a .msg file type? Am I right in saying this? What if I simply hit forward and send the e-mail that way? What file exension will it have when it lands in my OE mailbox, .doc? Thank you |

Yes to the first question.
The second one is due to the fact that OE recognizes a text eml file as a message, but Outlook only recognizes such as an msg file in that format. So its specific to the mail program. You might ask in an Outlook newsgroup if there is a way for forward other than as an msg file. I don't know. Just forwarding will put the message in the body of the email and you will be able to read it fine. You could export the message from Outlook to OE at work and send it from OE as an attachment then from there. steve wrote in message ups.com... The advantage to forwarding as attachment, is the original message is
preserved, so one can for instance view the original headers. Also, depending upon the client, sometimes images in forwarded messages don't display. steve "Gary Smith" wrote in message ... wrote: What if I simply hit forward and send the e-mail that way? What file exension will it have when it lands in my OE mailbox, .doc? If you simply click Forward and send the email, it will go as a normal message with no attachment. Since it's a message rather than a file, the question of file extension does not arise. This is a far beeter way to forward messages. -- Gary L. Smith Columbus, Ohio |
