Default lost messages in news groups

I had to do a system restore today and the result was that the messages in
this and other newsgroups have apparently been reset to showing ONLY
messages from the past 5 days.
Clicking on msnews.microsoft.com , the news groups
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general and
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress show a total of
31034 and 7586messages respectively. However, the viewing pane only shows
303 and 293 total messages each respectively. How can I see all the
messages? I posted a message on 11.11.06 but I cannot see it now.

please help

Do you have a rule to delete messages over 5 days old?

Do you use a view that only shows messages less than 5 days old?

Did you try to reset the problematic groups to retrieve all message
headers again?

Default lost messages in news groups

Hi Frank

I was wondering if you could advise me on the following as I have been so
far unsuccessful on the web based newsgroups for XP.

I would like MS Photoed.exe to become the default viewer in XP and not WP&F
viewer without losing thumbnail views of photos. So if I open a folder
containing photos, I would like to see thumbnails views and when I double
click on an image I would like MS Photoed.exe to open the image and not WP&F
viewer.

I have learnt that the default XP WP&F viewer cannot be removed by the usual
'choose program to open' or by changing 'file associations' in file types.
I believe that the fix is somewhere in the registry - but haven't been able
to find the solution yet. I have tried the following below without any
success;
Solution #1:
a.. Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
b.. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations\ image\ ShellEx\
ContextMenuHandlers.
c.. Delete the ShellImagePreview key.
d.. Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take
effect immediately.
Solution #2:

a.. Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
b.. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ CLSID\
{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}\ shellex.
c.. Delete the MayChangeDefaultMenu key.
d.. Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take
effect immediately.

I also do not want to disable/remove 'Window Picture and Fax Viewer' (i.e.
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll)as this action prevents me from viewing thumbnails.

I have also tried "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\PhotoEd\PHOTOED.exe" "%1" in registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
jpegfile\shell\open\command

I did fix this last year but cannot remember what I did except I know that
the solution was found in the registry.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Rgds

Roman

Shift-Right click a saved image and choose open with. Select Photoed and
check the box to Always use this program.

Sorry Frank, this solution may work for Adobe Photoshop and maybe other
image editors - but will not work with Photoed.

Any other ideas?

Thanks
Roman
