A friend sent me a picture and re-sent, but both times I didn't receive it.
Both e-mails showed as about 480kb, indicating an attached file, but there was no attachment line or embedded picture. He says it shows up fine in his Sent folder. I would imagine that he's not sending via OE, as he is using his corporate system. Any ideas? |

There are a few possibilities. Some are on the sender's end, and some may be
on your end. Do you have any protective software that scans your email and removes
attachments? Some antivirus, antispyware, firewall and anti-spam programs can do it, as well as many tools available to system administrators, if we're talking about an at-work situation. --- Ted Zieglar "Backup is a computer user's best friend." Highlight the message, then press Ctrl+F3 and look for the image source. If
it was properly attached or embedded, it should appear below all of the text as "gibberish" preceded by a line identifying the file by name. If your mail settings are to reply to all message using Plain Text, try forwarding his incoming message to you. If there is an attached file, it should appear in the line just below the Subject. The problem is most likely on the sender's end since you state you normally have no problem with graphic files. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Windows Mail Apps https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. If messages are sent using the Exchange family of mail programs
(includes Windows Messaging or Outlook97/98/2000+) and the option to use Rich Text Format is selected, it puts the RTF message (and any attached files) in an attachment called WINMAIL.DAT (application/ms-tnef). But this attachment is useless to most other mail programs. In some mail programs (e.g. Outlook Express), the attachment won't even be visible. The Exchange user can turn off the RTF option for messages to selected recipients. Note that if sending via an Exchange server, the Exchange server administrator may be overriding the mail client settings. In this case, the administrator will need to make changes on the server. In some cases, the Exchange server actually removes the attachments to some recipients. For additional information, see the MS-TNEF WINMAIL.DAT Attachments section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...de.htm#ms-tnef At the above link is information on several utilities that can be used to recover the attachment if the sender can't or won't resend it in plain text mode. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Marty" wrote in message ... The attachment and embedded picture were there all the time. On both his send and re-send, I never opened the message. Since we have an ongoing dialogue, I just highlighted the message and clicked "Reply", as I always do and the attachment header and embedded picture are removed on the reply form. Earlier this evening I noticed the attachment icons on the message list and opened them and the picture was right there like it was supposed to be. Sorry for troubling you with my carelessness. |

That's okay. We all make mistakes. :-)
Glad you got it straightened out. --- Ted Zieglar "Backup is a computer user's best friend." Marty wrote: "Marty" wrote in message ...
