Default Import OE6 messages into OE5?

The dbx files are the same, which is the point. The address book issue is
an issue that blocked functionality, but didn't affect the message store.

CRS strikes again. I thought messages created with the more current

I think the messages should be okay but the Address Book won't import

If it's indeed IE/OE 5.0, the messages may import OK but they might not
be usable unless he upgrades to IE/OE 5.01 or higher. Long story...

Move the dbx files to the Win 95 machine.
Make sure the files are not marked Read Only.
In OE, File, Import, Messages, OE5, Store directory, point to the
files
that you moved.

Is it feasible to import a message store created in OE6 (WinXP)
into
OE5 (Win95)? This would just be a stopgap pending purchase of a
new
PC.

That's IE5.5 (no Service Packs).

Ignore our little sidebar exchanges, Martyn: The DBX files and Address Book
will both import & function properly.

That's IE5.5 (no Service Packs).

As a matter of interest IE and OE came from a Microsoft disk titled
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 (SP1). I have it here and I'll use
it to install OE on my ladyfriend's PC (which, although IE has been
upgraded to v5, still has Internet Mail & News), now I know I can
import her files.

The IE on my disk is v5.00.3103.1700. The splash screen says 5, but
notes it is SP1. OE also says 5.

Regards,
Martyn

We've wandered far into OT but see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=164539

It all depends on the source of the disk.

v5.00.3105.0106 = IE5.01 SP1 (Win95/98 & NT 4.0)

v5.00.3103.1000 = IE5.01 SP1 (Windows 2000 SP1)

v5.50.4807.2300 = IE5.5 Service Pack 2

I've done this now and everything looks fine on my friend's old
machine. Another question comes to mind, however: will it be
possible, at some future date, to merge DBX files from two different
sources on a new PC, using OE's "File, Import" function?

Thanks again,
MBT

Yes, but if you have the same email message on both machines, you will have
two messages (duplicates) after the import.
