Default computer freezes when a saved email is opened

Create a new folder in OE and name it Test
drag and drop the .eml into the Test folder (just hold the left mouse button
down on the .eml file then drag it over to the Test folder the release the
mouse button)

Does it open there ok?

If so, File | Save As...
now save it as a different name and try to open the new .eml file.

i save my "joke" emails in a subfolder, in my documents folder. if i open
up
one of the message files, .eml, from that subfolder, the machine freezes
when i close the message. it seems to be the emails with graphics, but not
sure. most of the time alt-ctl-del restarts the machine.

the emails open normally from outlook express "joke" folder i created.

any ideas as to cause of the freezing?

thank you, len kiesling

Could possibly be a video releated problem with it maxed.

Control Panel | Display Properties | Settings tab | Advanced button |
Troubleshoot tab

drop the hardware acceleration down a dnotch or two and see if the problem
persists.

Also check for updated video drivers.

i had saved the file in the ooutlook express test folder, when message was
closed-highlighted in the test folder.
i then decided to check if saving the file when it was open for viewing

when i dragged & dropped file, i had tiled the windows. without untiling,

i tried opening the new file with the subfolder fully maximized & the
computer froze when closing the file. if the window is not maximized, the
old & newly created .eml files open fine!

only when window ( jokes subfolder) is fully opened the messages freezes
upon closing.

using the the windows key & arrow keys, i was able to restart ok.

any ideas?

Default computer freezes when a saved email is opened

thank you for reply.

i have hardware accelleration set one notch down, to solve other problems.
never considered this to be a driver related problem, opening the eml file
with max window view.

video adapter is a voodoo 3000 from dell, factory original. previously, when
i tried to update the driver from web, or go back to original driver from
dell resource disk, my resolution freezes at 640 x 480, & cannot be changed.
my fix is to scanreg /restore.

i can open the saved emails with a small window opened, vs max window.

the driver situation hasn't caused any great problems, so i stopped
researching. some web pages cause the window to freeze while viewing.
lowering hardware accellerator helped.

thank you! len kiesling

Then don't wait for Vista, baby! Seriously though, consumer versions of
Vista won't be released until Jan-07 at the earliest and most PCs now are
being sold as Vista-ready (suitable for upgrading). Do yourself a favor and
get the hang of WinXP SP2 first, Len. You'll be verey glad you did (and you
might not want to upgrade to Vista).

Well, I take it Robear knows what's going on there so I'll let him convince
you from there.
As it stands right now, I'm not looking forward to servicing Vista.
