I'm having a problem with the POP settings and the port settings remaining as
configured. Whenever I start the computer and open OLE, the gmail settlings revert back to some number in the POP field, and some other port numbers. I have to go into Tools and reset the pop field and default port settings each time. This is getting annoyning. Please tell me there's an Easy Button to fix this? PS - all setting in gmail itself are fine - followed the gmail auto format and everything. |

Disable email scanning by you anti virus software, it serves no useful purpose and causes this sort of problem, some number in the POP field, - 127.0.0.1 by any chance? -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. OE. Sorry - I spoke too fast.
This didn't fix the problem. OLE still reverts back to 127.0.0.1 in the pop field, and the default ports for gmail only. Comcast and AOL work fine. I use McAfee Security Center, and I've turned off the email virus scan and spam killer. I want to like Microsoft products, I REALLY do, but between general Windows issues and specific OLE issues, it's a very trying experience (most likely user error, I know). Any suggestions? Get rid of McAfee completely. Just disabling may not cure the problem.
I use, and recommend, AVG Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 or: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option. Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Sam F." wrote in message ... Thanks. Before I do that, though, is it possible that there's another cause
to the problem? I'd hate to go through the process and find out the issue isn't resolved. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Get rid of McAfee completely. Just disabling may not cure the problem.
