When I first open OE6 it shows my pending incoming MAIL properly but shows
no new messages in any of the NEWSGROUPS I watch on any server. Clicking on send receive changes nothing. They seem to update automatically later as I find messages listed later IE: "msnews.microsoft.com [13]" Opening individual newsgroups show many messages there. Running IE. OE6, XP-sp3 Is there a setting or known cause for this? I have searched but none seem to apply to newsgroups only. Thank you SG |

While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages and
Group Messages By Conversation are checked. Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. Then, right click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local File | Reset. Switch to another folder and then back and all available messages will be downloaded again. Or go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now and choose the group, or server at the top and then Reset. It would be a good idea to compact your folders when you're done. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. My personal preference is to disregard synchronizing and rather have OE check for news when it checks for mail. Tools | Accounts | News. Check: " Include this account...........". -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "shakey" wrote in message ... Thank you Bruce as that seems to have done it. Will know for sure as more
messages arrive. I had everything as you suggested so I think it was the compacting that fixed it. SG "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. OOPS Nope it still does not load the unread messages for the news server
until I click on server then synchronize. I have no groups checked to synchronize and do have it set to load with mail. SG "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... It's a little work, but all I can think to do at this point is to remove
the account, reboot and then add it back. My settings are like I suggested. For each group, Never Sync, and Include this account.............. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "shakey" wrote in message ...
