Default Cannot open an instance of a recurring entry

After creating a recurring appointment, outlook comes up with the following
message when trying to open any one of the occurences... 'can't open this
item.The object could not be found'. I can delete all the occurences but not
view them.

Default Cannot open an instance of a recurring entry

Outlook 2003 on an MS Exchange Server.
It used to work fine with Outlook 2000.
