I can find an appointment when I search, but it does not display in the day
or week view

Yes. I found the answer in one of the references you had for Apple support.
It does appear clear that downgrading tro an earlier version of iTunes is not the answer, so you might want to change your help link. Many people say they see the appointments in table view - that is the same
