Default New Entries to Calendar

Outlook 2007. When I attempt to set the date for a new calendar entry, I
click on the down arrow to open up the calendar, but when I move the cursor
to the calendar, it closes. If I click and hold I can move the cursor to the
appropriate day in the current month and the date will set when I release the
mouse. However, I cannot advance the calendar because as soon as I release
the mouse button, the calendar closes.
