i have put a number of tasks in the tasks section of outlook, and when i
wanted to see if they came up on my calendar, they are not there. is it
possible to link the information i have about the tasks, and the time
reminders with my calendar?

Outlook is designed to show the Tasks and Calendar side by side. The
TaskPad can be seen in the Calendar view.

It may be designed to do it that way, but I would also like to be able to see
ONLY my calendar, not have to look at two different things, which may or may
not coincide. If I have a large number of tasks, as well as meetings,
initiated by others as well as myself, why should I have to look at two
different things? If they both show up on calendar, problem solved.

Task items and calendar items are different types of Outlook items and can only be combined manually. You may want to look at third party software such as Taskline that will create tasks in your calendar once scheduled using the Taskline form. http://www.taskline.com
