Default Unable to set reminders in user-created Calendar

We have just performed a migration from an old Windows 2000 Active Directory
domain with an Exchange 2000 server to a new Windows 2003 Active Directory
domain with an Exchange 2003 server. EXMERGE was used to migrate mail
between the two servers (they're different forests).

One of my users is wondering why she is unable to set a reminder in a
calendar she's created. On the old server she had her normal Outlook
Calendar, and she had a sub-calendar called Scheduling Calendar underneath
it.

Previously when creating an appointment in the Scheduling Calendar she was
able to set a reminder for the appointment with no problem.

On the new server she created this calendar again, however when she checks
the Reminder box and goes to save the appointment she gets the following
error box:

"The reminder for "test appointment" will not appear because the item is not
in your Calendar or Tasks folder. Is this OK?"

Creating reminders for items in the normal Outlook Calendar or in her Tasks
works fine, but not in this user-created calendar.

Is there something special that needs to be done with the calendar? Or is
this a difference between Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003? I exported the
calendar from the old server and imported it into the user's mailbox but
that didn't make any difference (and I didn't expect it to; just a stab in
the dark).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There are no changes in functionality. That's the way it's always been in
Outlook unless you are using a 3rd party addin to allow reminders in other
folders. Even then the hard-coded warning that the reminder won't appear is
still there for appointments and tasks, it's hard-coded and can't be
removed.

Outlook 2007 does allow reminders in a folder under Calendar for example,
but that's the first version that does so.

Are there any 3rd party addins that you recommend? The Exchange 2000 server
predates either myself or the IT director, and I don't see anything on the
server itself that would indicate what addins are present. Thanks!

Addins are installed on the client and run within Outlook. They do not run
on the server.

I recommend my own reminder addins, you can find a link in my signature. As
far as I know those are the only addins that add that functionality to
Outlook.

Never mind, apparently she was getting this error before and just clicking
"Yes" to say that it was OK. I'd assumed she was telling me the truth about
it working before since her appointment items in the old calendar have the
Reminder box checked. :/

Thanks for the response!

Joe

Never trust users, they lie like rugs.

You can check the reminder box but the item will only turn red when the
reminder is due if it's not in one of the default 4 folders.
