Knowing if a message has been read

Track access to those images on your web server. Note that by default modern e-mail clients (Outlook, Gmail etc) no longer display embedded images in HTML e-mail for precisely this reason. The user has to explicitly request such an action. I am sure that Playboy's HTML newsletter containing images has a very high open ratio. -- Leonid S.
