Default Duplicate Identities?

Hi MC,

As you noticed each folder has a unique string of numbers. You will also
notice via Tools | Options | Maintenance tab, then choosing Store Folder it
will display the unique number of the folder you are using.

The other folder will not have the same data as the one you are using.

To find out what is in the other folder, as Ron suggested, create a new
Identity.

With this new idenity you can import from the other folder to find out what
is in it,
..
File| Import| Messages| OE6| Message store directory, then browse to the
other folder that is not yours or your wife's.

Finish importing all folders.

This will let you look at all the messages in this message store.

Do you want to put any or all of these messages into your identity?

Post back for further instructions.

Ken

| Ken,
| What I am saying is that each identity has two folders. And each folder,
| (four of them), has a unique string of numbers attached to it.

| Hi MC,
|
| In your Identities Folder each identity should have a unique number.
| Something like {A98CD159-12BB-434A-B9EC-ACCA9AA33473}for one of the
| identities and a different number for each of the others
|
| Are you saying there are two identities with the same number?
| -----------------
|
| The identity used by you is displayed by choosing Tools, Options,
| Maintenance tab, then choosing Store Folder. The same procedure will
| display your wife's.

| | Ron,
| | When I open OE and click on Identities, there are two and only two.
| | But when I go to the Identities folder, there are four. Two for me,
and
| two
| | for my wife.
| | Leading me back to my original question: can I merge these folders so
| that
| | the two folders for me become one, and the two folders for my wife
become
| | one? And if so, how?
| | Thank you.

| | If you create a new Identity, then there will be the Main Identity
and
| the
| | created Identity.
| | I don't understand why you have four Identities.
| | In OE, File, Switch Identities
| | How many Identities are listed?
| |
| | You can import messages from other Identities.
| | Make sure that there are no duplicates before importing.

| | Ron, there are a total of four folders for two identities. Two
per
| | identity.
| | Each folder has a long string of numbers as the name. When I
| deciphered
| | each folder, two were for me, two for my wife. Each contained all
the
| OE
| | folders in it: inbox, sent, deleted, etc.
| | So I'm wondering why two per identity, and if it is possible to
merge
| the
| | two folders per identity into one per identity?

| | Do any of the files have a number, (1) ?
| | I don't know what you mean by two files for each of us.
| | Each folder in OE has a dbx file.
| | Every Identity has it's own folders and dbx files.

| | I have two email accounts set up with my ISP, (Comcast). One
for
| | myself
| | and
| | one for my wife. I noticed that when I go to the .dbx files
where
| OE
| | stores
| | its messages, there are two files for each of us. Is this the
| norm? I
| | wouldn't think so.
| | I'm wondering why this is and, more importantly, how I can
combine
| the
| | duplicate files so each of us has one file per identity. I
figure
| this
| | would
| | make things easier for me when I backup and should I need to
| reinstall.
| | Thank you.
