Since you stated that send/recive was set for 1 min its assumed you new were
the setting was
ToolsOptionsMail Setup tabSend/receive

Which means that your mail servers, both POP and SMTP haven't got any
time
to deal with the packets before the next lot come in! Why do you think
the
default polling time is set for ten minutes.....
