In Outlook 2003 with my email account as a Microsoft Exchange Server
account, I have a duplicate Contact folder listed as a subfolder in
my Calendar folder. This folder is not being used as my main contact
folder but whenever I try
to add or update a contact it defaults to this folder.

Try starting Outlook with the /resetfolders command line switch. Click
StartRun and enter

"%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /resetfolders

in the Open field and click OK.
