Default OL 2007 -- address book sorts

Most seem to realize that almost all changes made in Outlook configuration
require a restart to take effect.

In the interim, I ended up having to rename the list, which eventually
worked, thank you, but I had to restart Outlook. I've noticed that this
is
almost always true when I make changes in Outlook. Perhaps you could add
that as a final step when suggesting changes. Once (for another Outlook
problem) I had to completely reboot the machine.

But thanks, it worked, finally.

Go to Tools Account Settings Address Book Tab Outlook Address Book

Change... Set sort order there

How do I get the address book to sort on Last Name, which makes sense,
instead of by first name, which does not? When I open the address book
to
choose a recipient, either for email or mail merge, it lists by first
name.
I have tried removing and shifting fields in Contacts, which doesn't
help,
so
even though the phone list is sorted by File As (in alpha. order A to
Z),
the
address book itself persists in listing by first name.

TIA
