OE6 Stopped Working With Hotmail Plus
Glad to hear the ssl setting made it functional.
1. A pop3 account's Sent folder in OE only stores mail sent from the
account created in OE and only from the time that account was created in
OE provided OE/Tools/Options/Send/Save sent items is enabled.
Workaround for the online sent items is to use the inbox on both
accounts..which you desire to avoid. If you change your mind here's a
few choices.
If you have only one email account setup in OE is
- open OE and create a user created folder e.g. SentOld
- close OE
- logon to your account via the hotmail web site
- ensure your account is converted to a Live Hotmail account using
the full version interface
- open the Sent Items folder and change the status of all messages
to 'Unread', they should change to boldface type.
- Move all messages to the Inbox, then log off
- open OE and downlaod the messages, once retreived move them from
the Inbox to the Sent Old folder
If you have a different email account in OE exclusive of your pop/http
created accounts, then they can be forwarded to that account and dragged
to any user created folder.
If you use the web site you'll have to do this each time new sent
messages are generated with the use of the web site.
If your http account starts working in OE and you wish to keep the
messages locally in the OE default Sent Items folder, you'll have to
drag them to that location.
Additionally
- note that using the pop3 settings also does not download the Junk
Mail folders contents, thus a visit to the web site is required to
filter anything that should not be junk.
- any existing Junk Mail filter setttings via the Options/Junk Mail on
the web site will continue to function(e.g. if you have exclusive enable
then only mail to your online Contacts will be delivered to the online
or the pop3 inbox)
Finally,
Caution-OE is temperamental about the size of the message stores..it is
recommended to store messages in user created folders instead of OE
default folders and even better to store what you deem as important
content outside of OE in a folder created via Windows Explorer(drag an
drop). As insurance, compact OE regularly and preferably after toggling
the Work Offline option.
2. There is really nothing to adjust, beyond removal of the account and
recreation, if the hotmail accounts settings are correct.

I appreciate all the help from everyone. Winston, as you suggested, I
ticked
SSL for incoming and outgoing mail in the advanced section of the POP3
set up
in OE6 and now the POP3 account seems to work with the same e mail
address
and all the items in my inbox were downloaded to OE6. This helps and
will
give me some breathing space until I can get the http hotmail to work.
Unfortunately, the items in Sent items on the hotmail server were not
downloaded to OE6. However there are still two issues:
1- Is there any way of adjusting the POP3 settings so the sent items
folder
on my hotmail account will be downloaded to OE6? All new items sent by
IE6
will show up in IE6 but there were many messages I sent from the
hotmail
website while I was experiencing the problem and these messages are
still on
the hotmail server and I wish to get them into IE6 without having to
forward
them to my inbox.
2- I wonder if the http mail account problem in OE6 will cure itself
or
whether I can adjust the http account settings to see if there is a
work
around?
