OE6 Stopped Working With Hotmail Plus
A1. Not when accessing via POP3, no.
A2. Wait and see.

I appreciate all the help from everyone. Winston, as you suggested, I
ticked
SSL for incoming and outgoing mail in the advanced section of the POP3 set
up in OE6 and now the POP3 account seems to work with the same e mail
address and all the items in my inbox were downloaded to OE6. This helps
and will give me some breathing space until I can get the http hotmail to
work. Unfortunately, the items in Sent items on the hotmail server were
not
downloaded to OE6. However there are still two issues:
1- Is there any way of adjusting the POP3 settings so the sent items
folder
on my hotmail account will be downloaded to OE6? All new items sent by IE6
will show up in IE6 but there were many messages I sent from the hotmail
website while I was experiencing the problem and these messages are still
on
the hotmail server and I wish to get them into IE6 without having to
forward
them to my inbox.
2- I wonder if the http mail account problem in OE6 will cure itself or
whether I can adjust the http account settings to see if there is a work
around?
Kind Regards
Chris

Still no joy I'm afraid. I tried deleting the hotmail http account and
starting a new pop3 account.
I set incoming mail: pop3.live.com
I set outgoing mail: smtp.live.com
Set account name and password - check remember password
Log on using SPA not selected
Server requires authentication checked
Outgoing smtp port 25
Incoming pop port 995
Now I get the error message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes
for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period
of
inactivity. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Outlook express continues to work fine with another non hotmail
account
and Corel newsgroups. Just Hotmail has the problem. When I reported to
the hotmail technician I mentioned that I am a hotmail plus
subscriber.
He said my hotmail account was working properly.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Kind Regards
Chris

Note:
You may have to use a temporary bogus address to create the
account(e.g
) to avoid OE/OL etc choosing an http server
instead
of the live.com(pop3/smtp server) even when choosing pop3 as the type
of
account. Once the account is created, edit the account properties
with
the correct address and ensure the live.com servers, port numbers,
SSL
encryption and authentication are set properly.

Despite what you were told, the error points to problems/changes on
MSN/Hotmail's end, not yours or OE.
Did you tell the MSN/Hotmail tech that you're a Hotmail Plus
subscriber?
That being said, see this recent entry in the Windows Live Hotmail
blog about accessing Hotmail Plus accounts via POP3:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!44348.entry
You'll need to create a new Account for this POP3 access:
1. OE Tools Accounts Mail Click on NEW.
2. Populate the Servers tab per the instructions at the end of the
above blog entry:
QP
Our POP service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
with
the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication. This is to
ensure that your email address and password are not subject to
tampering. The settings are the following:
POP: pop3.live.com (port 995)
SMTP: smtp.live.com (port 25)
Note: make sure you check the box that indicates that your outgoing
server requires authentication (in most mail clients this is not
checked by default).
Username: your full email address
Password: your Windows Live ID password
/QP
On the Advanced tab, change the Incoming (POP) port from 110 to
995.

Last week OE6 suddenly stopped working with my hotmail plus

In the
past this would happen occasionally and the problem would clear up
on
its
own the next day. However this time it has been over a week. I am
convinced
there is a problem with the hotmail servrer but Hotmail tech

deny
this and directed me to OE6 support. OE6 works fine with another e
mail
account and also with other newsgroups. It just refuses to work
with
hotmail any more. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Kind
