When I set an Internet account, I wanted to save a copy of all
messages on my mail server. Accordingly I checked 'leave a copy of
messages on server' under 'Properties, advanced, delivery'

All incoming messages are being saved successfully but I have just
realised that copies of messages I compose and send are not being
saved on the server. Although copies of these outbound messages are
being saved on my computer in the 'sent' folder in OE, I would like to
also save copies on the mail server.

I'm not sure if checking 'leave a copy of messages on server' should
mean that both incoming and outbound messages will be saved.
