Default Active Sync Contacts problem

I am going to have similar issue this weekend.
My wife's Treo 650P just got replaced.
I have a 700W myself.
I want to combine her contacts (saved on her desktop in Palm's software)
with mine, which is in Outlook 2003 Pro.
I then want both of our Treos to have the exact same contacts.
From this thread, it appears this is not possible without some 3rd party
software?
Also we are about 400 miles apart and don't frequently have access to each
other's back up files.
We are both using windows XP and Office 2003Pro
Please forgive my intrusion into this thread, but it seems relevant.

Yes I know, and of course that will use ActiveSync, but the OP's 650 won't.

I don't think you can sync a Palm OS device using Active Sync.
ActiveSync is an MS product for Windows mobile/Pocket PC syncing.

While the Treo 650 SmartPhone is a Palm-powered device, Palm is also
marketing the new Treo 700w running WIndows Mobile on an XScale 312 MHz
processor.
