I routinely ignore read receipt requests. I don't want to be bothered, just
as you are looking for a more user friendly way. If the senders deserve a
response, they will get one.

Specify a receipt request manually (ViewOptions in the Compose window)
when you send to that person. There is no way I know to specify receipt
requests automatically on a per-contact basis.
