Thanks Brian BUT I've just wasted a lot of time with the "Data File did not
close properly" message and finally got Outlook working by reinstalling it
and just copying messages into it instead of...

Bin there done that. It turns out that I get a "Data File did not close
properly... message" just like so many others. Reading about that problem it
is suggested to copy messages into Outlook 07...
