As an addendum to this post, the update we installed on 1/16/06 (which
ended up causing the CDO problem) was Security Update for Outlook 2000
(KB892842) which does have a CDO component. ...

Since installing the latest Office 2000 update as listed on the Office
Update website on 1/16/06, we are getting repeatedly prompted to
install the Outlook 2000 Collaboration Data Objects (CDO)...
