why the email in inbox automatically deleted after I close it?

the email in inbox that I had open is not in "deleted item". the inbox become
empty every time i close and open the Outlook application again.
may I know where to change the setting of the view...

I had tried to find all the tools in the toolbar to undo...

Yes, I am using OL2003. the Outlook only appear in system tray when I open or
minimised the outlook window, but if I choose to close the outlook window,
the icon of the outlook in system tray will...
