Is there any way of finding out whether an account in a profile is configured
using IMAP or POP3.

POP3 or IMAP

Use the IOlkAccountManager interface (Outlook 2002 and up).
You can play with it in OutlookSpy (url below); click Misc |
IOlkAccountManager on the OutlookSpy toolbar.
