group contacts did not restore ?
I reformatted my hard drive and backed up my contacts and a 2nd group I
created to a PST folder. Previously when I created new mail .. New mail To next window shows up is my contacts,"Show Names from the" I select from the drop down menu and pick from Contacts or Volunteer...(which is the 2nd group name). When I restored, my contacts successfully restored to contacts and also where avaible when I would click on the To in new mail. I then restored volunteer import PST, found the back up "volunteer" and restored to Personal Folders and got an error message. " You are transfering data to a location that does not fully support Unicode. To avoid loss of Multilingual data, it is recommended that you choose a location that supports Unicode, such as Microsoft Office Personal Folders file" so apprenatley that doesn't work, So I restored to Contacts now I have my contacts and volunteer contacts in contacts, but my problem still exists when I create a new message, To "Show Names from the" and all is in that drop down menu there is "Contacts & outlook address Book", how can I get my Volunteer contacts back in to that drop down list to pick from when creating new mail ? How did you backup the contacts? If a pst file. open it directly in outlook

File Open Outlook Data File...

Hi Russ I am still not familair with all my comp. lingo. When you say
disribution list does that mean like my groups in my contact list or just contacts. I followed the path you mention and it did not restore, so like you said importing can destroy this. There is no term called "groups" in Outlook. Outlook uses Distribution
Lists. If the file you opened did not have the DL's intact, then you probably destroyed them when you created the file. Given your tendencies, I suspect you exported the data to create the backup. If so, that destroyed just as much data as importing. You need your last good copy of your data file. -- Russ Valentine "Carl R" wrote in message ... Outlook doesn't use groups - it uses distribution lists. If you open the PSt
using File, Open, you should have the DLs. Reinstalling outlook will not help - you need to open the original PST in Outlook.
