automatically sync outlook contacts and live contacts
 

Hi
I use outlook 2007 with outlook connector installed providing me access to
my windows live contacts and live mail in outlook.
My phone syncs its contacts with outlook, but with my standard contacts not
my live contacts. I can't find any way of changing this and it means I have 2
copies of my contacts in 2 folders within outlook.
The problem is, as a result, over time these 2 contact folders get out of
sync and I have to manually correct them.

Is there any way to automatically sync 2 contact folders in outlook? Or,
even better, merge the live contacts with the main contact folder?

What phone/sync software? The sync software controls the folders that sync.
If your software wont sync with the live mail contacts you'll need to copy
them to the local folder for syncing.

I use nokia pc suite to sync with my contacts and this doesn't give me the
option to change the contact folder. The nokia pc suite also doesn't work
with live mail so I cannot sync the contacts via this program.

I was hoping this might be a better solution that having to copy the folder
manually as I then have to remember which contacts I have updated.

If you make the Live Mail folders the delivery location (select the Hotmail
folders and click Set as Default on the Data Files tab of ToolsAccount
Settings, then restart Outlook), then your software should sync with those
folders instead of the local folders.

As an FYI, this doesn't work with all sync software, but its worth testing.

Unfortunately, if the software won't sync with live, you'll need to copy the
contacts. I'd probably get in the habit of only making changes in one area
and copy them to the other folder.

Have you tried setting the live account as the default for delivery? This
makes the live contacts the default. Not all sync software will 'see' the
contacts though, so it might not work.

i just want the outlook connector to STOP syncing with my outlook all
together. this is so lame. can someone please tell me how to stop this
maddness. I like getting my email, but do not need to sync my outlook with
MS Live Contacts. rrrrrr

Delete the Live account from Outlook and uninstall the Connector. If you
still want to receive Live mail, use a POP account.

account for both me and my wife. is there a setting we need to change or
upgrade to live?

I am having the following error in Outlook 2002 when trying to
"send/receive" with Hotmail with MSN Premium Service, and I am wondering if
it's related to "http no longer being supported" mentioned above:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username
and password are correct.'

I've verified the username a password are correct. Has there been a change
in Hotmail since 8/30/09 (the last time my hotmail and outlook were able to
sync) that requires me to set up my email differently under Tools, Email
Settings, Server? As currently it's set up as HTTP, which as been working
for years until 8/30/09, with no other changes to the computer or programs
that would have affected it.

Yes. As if 9/1/09, The DAV protocol used by Outlook for HTTP accounts has
been disabled on the server side. The new protocol, DeltaSync, is supported
by Windows Live Mail or the Outlook Connector, the latter being compatible
only with Outlook 2003 or 2007.

Thank you for that information Brian, as hotmail didn't let us know.

I followed the directions for setting up hotmail as a POP w/my Outlook 2002,
from the link you had provided above, and it worked. However, because it's a
POP, one disadvantage is that all my email that was in folders on the hotmail
server is not accessible on Outlook. If you have any ideas about how I could
move those folders, that would be great.

Additionally, I understand that hotmail accounts no longer have the ability
to sync email with Outlook as they used to; however, can the newer Window
Live emails sync w/Outlook (in my case 2002), or are they just a POP also?

If a Windows Live email can sync w/Outlook, what type of Server do I select
when setting up the new email account w/Outlook 2002? If you have a link to
send me for all the detailed settings for that (similar to the one I used
earlier in the thread for setting up hotmail w/Outlook), that would be great.
(As I may decide to send my old hotmail to my Windows Live mail address,
instead of the other way around!)

You'll need Outlook 2003 or 2007 with Outlook Connector to get functionality
similar to what you had.

I haven't tried this, but if you install Windows Live Mail, which can access
Hotmail with the new protocols, you may be able to export the folders to
Outlook from there.

Outlook 2002 will never be able to sync with Hotmail from now on. POP access
is all you'll have.
