Default Cannot remove defunct Contacts sources

Outlook 2003, WinXP, POP/SMTP.

Had to remove a number of archive pst's which had grown so large they had
become unstable.

Send/receive now works again, but the removal of these folders from the
taskbar has broken Contacts.

Although the Contacts item in the default pst is visible in the taskbar and
fully functional, any attempt to add a contact to a new message results in
the message that the Contacts folder cannot be accessed.

I think this is because Outlook had registered the Contacts folders in all
of the archive pst's as addressbook-sources, as well as that in the main pst.
(Which by rights it should not have done anyway, pulling addresses from an
archive will result in out-of-date information being used, which is crazy.)

I've followed the instructions for removing Contacts folders he

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...309891033.aspx

Without any success. The addressbok dropdown still lists five
identically-named items called 'Contacts' -four of which do not exist.

Any other ideas how to get rid of these bad Contacts entries? Or, any idea
where these settings are actually stored? Are they in the registry, a file,
or where?

How did you "remove" them?

The section entitled "I removed a Contacts folder so that it won't be
displayed in the Address Book. However, it is still displayed in the Address
Book, and I get an error message" should work. What do you see when you click
ToolsE-mail AccountsView or change existing directories or address
booksNext, select Outlook Address Book and click Change?
