Lost associated emails address to contacts in Outlook 2000
My boss went over the 2g size limit of his PST file the other day and the VP
used "Kernel for Outlook" to recover/resize it. Now when he opens his email and looks at his contact list, everyone is there and you can see the email addy for them. But when you try to create a new message it says there is no address associated with the contact. I installed the Thunderbird email app. and imported his contact list from Outlook and got almost the same thing, all the information for each contact, but no associated email address. I've searched this and the microsoft forum but so far only found one fleeting glimpse of a mapping issue, so maybe somebody out there can share some info? |

The addresses are NOT underlined. When you first double click the contacts
icon and it brings up a checkerboard looking screen with all the contacts, there is where you see the addresses and none of them are underlined. If you double click a contact from that screen, in the next window the email address field is blank. The VP used Scanpst first, but didn't have the intended outcome so he went with the "Kernel" software instead. it sounds like the addresses aren't in the correct field. If you click the
email button of an open contact, do you see the email address? -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. No, if you click the button Outlook crashes and you get the "Send error
report" pop-up "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: it sounds like the addresses aren't in the correct field. Lost associated emails address to contacts in Outlook 2000
Ok I repaired the pst file myself and put it on our server, went to his
machine and from Outlook did 'File, Open Outlook Data File' so I could copy his Contacts. When I looked at the repaired files' contacts everything was fine and dandy, worked like a charm. So I copied the contacts folder down from the repaired pst. to his current 'Outlook Today' folder tree and all of the contact information went blank... you could right click and send a new message and all the info was in the email app window, it just wasn't visible in the contacts widow.... something fishy going on. |

Start with cleanviews although I'm not sure it’s a views problem.

If I copy the pst to my machine, or his machine, the contacts work fine. If I
move the contacts to his "Outlook Today" the contacts go blank and the file is corrupted. This morning (Monday) everything I did for him Friday was reset and again his contacts were gone. It sounds like the default pst is corrupt.
If he adds a new contact to that pst, does it work as expected? -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com.
