While using the Outlook Contacts Folder I keep
getting a window pop up that says "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?" I checked No and it won't go away. I chose 5 minutes and it went away and came back. Any idea what's happening and how to repair it ? |

It is the very well documented Email Security feature that was implemented
in Outlook 8 years ago. You must be running something very outdated to be getting this prompt. http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup.htm -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Bubey" wrote in message ... Yes Russ, it is old. Microsoft Office Pro 2000.
I have used Outlook Exp but wanted to switch to Outlook. It started up fine the first time and I was able to import my Outlook Exp address book. Then the next time I started Outlook up I got the msg. I had to use Task Mgr to end the program, it would not close normally. I thought it might have something to do with Outlook Exp, so I changed all settings to show Outlook. I went to the link you gave me and tried all the updates. MS Updates said they were already installed. It shows I have ver 9.0.8961 - SP3. Any more suggestions. Can't afford an upgrade of Office. Suggest reading the article I posted so you can figure out which application
is causing the problem. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Bubey" wrote in message ... Yes Russ, it is old. Microsoft Office Pro 2000. I have used Outlook Exp but wanted to switch to Outlook. Well Russ, I reviewed your link and spent all day
reviewing Microsoft and Goggle for help. The conclusion I get is that Microsoft caused the problem but isn't going to issue a fix. I found a page on MS titled; "Problem cause by Microsoft Ofc 2000: consider upgrading". At whose expense? They did say that support was extended until 2009. Is there anyway I can remove the offending updates and take my Outlook back to where it was, working? or Can I just completely remove it from my laptop and then reinstall it and not do the updates that caused the problem in the first place. Guess I'm getting old, I started using their products in 1984, but MS isn't what it used to be when it started and they were concerned about their customers. __________________________________________________ _ "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Incorrect conclusion. Microsoft had to add the security measures. They are
not the cause of the problem. The cause of the problem is some application or add-in you are running that is so outdated it has not kept up with any of the current versions of Outlook. Only you know what else you are running on your computer that might be trying to access Outlook. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Bubey" wrote in message ... By "add-in" do mean something I have added to
Outlook Exp or Outlook or just something on my computer ? What is an add-in as I don't usually add on something, My programs are pretty basic ones. I'm not a gamer or you tube, my space etc. How would I got about finding what "add-in" is causing the problem ? Since the msg says something is trying to access my "email addresses" I would assume it has something to do with either program. Thanks in advance for all your help on this. __________________________________________________ ___ "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Incorrect conclusion. If you click ToolsOptionsOtherAdvanced Options (if Outlook 2000 even has that), there may be a coupld of add-in management buttons there. See what you have. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Thanks Brian.....I assume the
"click ToolsOptionsOtherAdvanced Options....should be done from Outlook ? Can't do that as the original problem, the box that says, "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?" comes up and Outlook freezes so I can't get to the tools..... I have tried all day to restore to an earlier point and none of them would work. Thought maybe that would get rid of my problem. "Brian Tillman" wrote in message ... You can then uninstall the add-in. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
