How can I share contact data between Excel and Outlook?

I went to the instructions on Outlook for sharing data between Excel and
Outlook and followed those instructions. But the Import a File Wizard won't
let me Map Custom Fields or go on to Next at that point (both Map Custom
Fields and Next are gray). What am I doing wrong?

THANKS - L.

Dear LSPosey,

Outlook does not support the import or export of user defnied (custom)
fields.

"Custom import and export from Microsoft Outlook"
http://www.outlookcode.com/article.aspx?ID=23

Maybe it helps.

Two things:

#1 - The Map Custom Fields button will be greyed out if the checkbox beside
the folder you are working with does not have a chechmark in it (folder
listed in forlder list on the same screen for the Map Custom Field button).
As soon as this gets checked - the buttons become active.

#2 - If in fact, you are trying to import/export Outlook user defined
fields, then as Oliver points out - you will need a 3rd party utility for
that (or write your own code). If this is the case, you may find this of
interest - For Import: http://www.contactgenie.com/cg20features.htm For
Export: http://www.contactgenie.com/cgxfeatures.htm . The button title "Map
Custom Fields" only enables you to change the field map for those fields
that Outlook makes available and is no doubt confusing for those using this
for the first time.
