I had to reinstall the OS, Home XP and Outlook 2002. I now have two Personel
folders. One has the backed up data, the other is basicly empty since it is from the new install. My address book seems to be gone from the backup; but, the contacts list is good. How can I move the old Contacts into the new version AND, most important, is there a way to recreate my address book? Thanks, Larry |

What a mess. We have no idea what you actually did from the meager details
in your post. This much I can tell you: 1. You migrated your data to the new installation incorrectly. The methods to migrate data correctly have been posted here countless times. Here is a repost: http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...771141033.aspx 2. You failed to configure your Outlook Address Book Service correctly. Those instructions have been posted here even more frequently: http://support.microsoft.com/default...Product=ol2002 If any of this is unclear, please post back with more specific details on what you did to create this problem, and tell us what is unclear to you. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Chipper" wrote in message ... Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I was too brief. Here's the longer
version. The Ice Caps were melting faster than my computer so I had to have the Home XP OS reinstalled. I had the C drive backed up. The Tech that did the work put all my original data beck in a folder called Old Data. After I reinstalled all my programs including Outlook 2002. I couldn't find my email so I went back to the Tech and he found my email in a hidden file; he then placed it into a Personal Folder in Outlook. I was able to drag all my sub-folders from the PF into the new In Box. However, the program won't alow me to move the Contacts file and I can't find the Address Book. All the email addresses are in the Contacts file so I just need to find out if I can move the namea & email addresses into the new address book. I've printed out the information that you directed me to and will try to figure it out tonight. Thanks, Larry "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: What a mess. If you read what I posted, you'll realize that none of this makes sense. All
Outlook data resides in one file. Emails cannot exist separately from Contacts. The address book does not exist. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Chipper" wrote in message ... Sorry, I'm like the guy that drives a car; but, only knows how to turn the
key and put gas in the tank. If I could afford another tech I'd pay someone to do the job. But, I'm learning. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. I think you'll find everything to need on those pages. The most important
things to remember a 1. The only way to use a previous data file in Outlook is to connect it to the new profile by opening it in Outlook. Never try to import it. Ever. Never overwrite another data file. After you open it, you can either reuse it by setting it as your new default, or copy what you want from it into the new data file the new profile created. 2. There is no address book in Outlook. All data is in Contacts Folder. Just follow the steps I posted to get your Contact data to appear in the address book view. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Chipper" wrote in message ...
