importing excel to outlook

all goes fine, selected range, closed excel, import in outlook, up until the
last window which only gives me the option to change the destination, i've
tried contacts and my backup contacts file and it doesnt like either. the
question is how do i get the next step....

"Doesn't like" means what exactly (not an Outlook error message)? In order
for anyone to remotely have a clue as to possible problem(s)/solution(s),
should provide the following:

#1 - Outlook version
#2 - Exact error message(s) displayed (not summaries)
#3 - Operating system helpful
#4 - Just to confirm - you can open the folders you've selected (and a
contact within these folders) from within Outlook with no issues - correct?

Just as a FYI - the Destination Folder selection screen is not the last
window in the import process - the sole function of that screen is to simply
select the target folder where the data is to be imported.
