Unable to add to local contacts from global address list. Error: "Some names could not be added to Contacts. The action could not be completed."

When trying to copy a contact from the global address list (GAL) to my
local contacts folder, I get the error: "Some names could not be added
to Contacts. The action could not be completed."

Does anyone know what might be wrong here? I know this error has been
reported before, though I could find no solution to the problem.

Unable to add to local contacts from global address

I saw the same error. In my case, the solution was to open the Address Book, select "Tools Options...", and then to remove the Global Address List from the listbox with the description:

"When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order:"

I think copy operation was failing because the Address Book was attempting to copy the contact from Global Address List back into Global Address List. But removing the Global Address List from the listbox seems to avoid this conflict.

Good luck!

Trying again...

The listbox has the following description text:

When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order

I removed the Global Address List from this listbox, and then I could add the entries from the Global Adresses to my contacts.

Why would you want to add GAL members to your Contacts, when you already
have access to the GAL?
