I have completed an upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Business.
Outlook 2003 will not open and states the above message.
Retry - no result
Cancel - Outlook 2003 closes

So I went to Control Panel, Mail, Email accounts and the same message was
displayed.

Outlook 2003 worked perfectly in XP Pro but now I can't find a way in.
Please help
Max

You cannot upgrade an entire Microsoft operating system and expect Outlook
to work without at least creating a new Outlook profile from scratch.

Hi Russ
Thank you for the response.
But I can't open Outlook 2003 and do anything with it, I have deleted
Outlook 2003 and reloaded it to see if that would solve my problem but I
still received exactly the same message via opening Outlook 2003 and via
control panel as stated below.
Please tell me what blindingly obvious action I should take as I am about to
replace Vista Business with the working XP Pro as I need my Outlook records.
Regards
Max

Hi Russ
I thought that I should make it clear that all my email addresses, POP3,
smtp, passwords did successfully transfer from XP Pro/Outlook 2003 to Vista
Business/ Outlook 2003.
I hope that helps in your review.
Regards
Max

Reinstalling Outlook never helps. You don't need to open Outlook. You need
to create a new profile.

Hi Russ
Please email me your postal address via ebay so that I can send you a small
thank you for your help. The KISS suggestion was perfect, I had assumed that
because I could see my old Outlook 2003 profile that everything was there and
working. Now I have learnt never to assume.

I think most people assume that an upgrade procedure that Microsoft supports
would leave their programs intact. Sadly, Outlook has always been an
exception to that assumption. For years I've been trying to think of a
reason why that behavior is excusable or tolerable. I still can't think of
one.
No need for gifts. Your thanks is enough. Nice thought, though.
