cannot see contacts in address book

Have loaded Office 2000 SBE onto Vista machine. When clicking on contacts
they are all there. When clicking on address book it is empty. I've tried
using fixes found on internet but Accounts window looks totally different in
Vista. Also am getting the Outlook 2000 Startup window appearing every time I
start Outlook.

You do realize that Office 2000 is not supported on Vista, right?

I rang MS support who told me it was. Its running now. I imported the address
book from a csv file. Not sure if there is an actual connection between
contacts and address book, but it works for now. I'm still getting the Office
2000 Startup screen appearing every time I start Outlook.

Never again will I trust MS and be an early adopter. I've spent hours trying
to get compatability issues sorted.

All well documented. Might be better to research your purchase decisions on
your own. It is never wise to assume that software that is several years out
of support will work on a brand new OS.
You really posted no information. "I've tried using fixes found on the
Internet" doesn't tell us anything. Nor did you provide your Outlook version
accurately. Perhaps you installed a different mail support mode of Outlook
2000 that you were using before. We have no clue what you did.

Yes, you're right, I should have assumed the worst and hoped for better.
Sorry for my whinging attitude - it came out of frustration.
What I did...
Installed Office 2k SP1 SBE (installed no problem)
- after doing this I copied the pst file over (should have imported - I know
now)
- all started fine but address book was empty although contacts were present
- tried looking at properties of Contacts folder but Outlook Address Book
tab is greyed
Installed Office 2k SP3
Ran detect and repair tool (no difference)
Added the Outlook Address Book service & restarted
Exported Contacts to csv from old PC
Imported into address book

I'm not in front of the machine now so can't give exact Outlook version.
Thanks for you help.

Ouch. You should never import Outlook data from another installation,
especially by going through a different file format. When you import
Contacts, their electronic addresses will not resolve, so they will not
appear in the address book.
The way to transfer Outlook data is to open the other data file copy what
you need from it.

Originally I just copied the Outlook.pst file from installation 1 into
installation 2 - thats when address book was empty even though Contacts was
populated.
After trying to copy the installation2 contacts into installation2 address
book without success, I exported contacts from installation2 to csv, then
imported the csv file into installation2 address book - that worked fine.
I'm not sure if the "connection" between Contacts and Address Book (if
there's meant to be one) is working. Why are there 2 separate lists? What is
their relationship? You don't think about it when everything is working fine,
but when contacts and address book are not cooperating it becomes very
confusing.

Everything you did is completely wrong and a guarantee to corrupt your
profile and possibly your data. Suggest reading the countless posts we've
provided on how to migrate your data correctly.
