categories list not imported
Outlook 2000. After a hard disk crash, I have re-installed the software and
imported my pst files. All well until I needed to assign a category. The categories that I had set up on the master list are on the individual contact details but they are not in the category list to assign to contacts. Is there any way I can recover them other than the labour intensive way of re-entering each one? If it helps I do have a complete backup of my old hard drive but have set up the software as new from windows up. I have only reinstated data. jemimapd |

Categories are stored in the registry.
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olcat.htm You should never import PST files. Just open them. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "jemimapd" wrote in message ... Outlook 2000. Thank you Russ but I'm not sure I undersatnd the significance of slipstick.
I will look at 'slipstick'. What is it supposed to do? I have already been told that I should not import PST files when I had a problem with sub-directories. I did because nothing told me I shouldn't. The pst files were stored on an external drive and I needed them on the main pc. Also before importing I had already received and dealt with emails held up by the three days my system was down and I saw import as a merge. The help facility does not make this clear. I have over two thousand contacts and many stored emails. -- jemimapd "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Categories are stored in the registry. http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olcat.htm You should never import PST files. Slipstick is a website. I pointed you to an article there that tells you how
to migrate categories. This has nothing to do with importing. If you've already done the import and it worked, you have nothing to worry about. Next time, just open the PST file and copy what you need from it. You lose less data that way. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "jemimapd" wrote in message ...
