Some names could not be added to Contacts
Hi.
Outlook 2003 in XP SP2. I get a message "Some names could not be added to Contacts " when using Address Book - Type Name - I get the name I want - doubleclick the name - Press Add to Contacts. Please advice. Thanx in advance. -- If it works, don''''t fix it.

You never add or edit data in the Address Book view. Use the Contacts

Hi.
It works in my installation but not with the customer I am supporting. Don't understand what u mean with "the Address Book view". I start in the basic view in Outlook 2003. - Press the button Address Book - Type a name - Doubleclick the desired name and I have three options to add this name to my Contacts 1. Press the icon Add to Address Book. (a small book with a plus sign) 2. Select File - Add to Address book 3. Doubleclick the name and press Add to Contacts. My installation is the same version as the customer has. Hopefully this explanation was more clear. Your explanation was the same and so is my answer:
Never add or edit data from the Address Book. It is not supported and does not work. Checked with more customers and it works as I described My question now is then: When opening the Address Book... what is the meaning of the icon that looks like a book and has a small plus sign in the lower left corner? Its sole purpose os to look in your Contacts folders and make the named and electronic addresses in there available for the recipient fields. And what is the purpose of the selection of File - Add to Contacts? While it's true that this action opens a New Contact form, it can be problematic and doesn't work well. While it may have worked in some older versions, it was never reliable and
the address book interface was never intended for data entry--as you now are proving. The address book is simply a view of your Contacts data. Never use it for data entry. Break that habit now.
