I want to list and view my contacts by 'surname, first name'. No matter
what I do, they're all mixed up, some with 'first name surname', 'surname first name' (no comma), etc. How can I enter new contacts to appear 'surname, first name'? How can I easily re-sort the mess I have already? Thanks so much. |

Check your contact card and look at the FILE AS section. You can use the
drop down to choose the various ways it'll be filed. When you display it in the PHONE LIST view you can click on that column to sort it. "B. Not information here. You must at least tell us in which view you are trying
to sort and view your Contacts. The possibilities are endless, and we can't read minds. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "B. Parravano" wrote in message ... Thanks for the prompt reply. File as on the card gives me a choice of
John, Smith or Smith John (for example) but nothing else. I've tried sorting differently everywhere to no avail, but can't find what you mean below. I've also tried entering them the way I want them to show, but they still show up differently on the list. I don't remember having this problem with Outlook 2000, so my list from there is correct, but everything newly entered is different. Sorry! I'm new at this. When I select new message and To = the messy list
comes up. Hope this helps. Please see my response to Steve above. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Not information here. Should be easy, then. (It would be even easier if we knew what version you
are using now.) First make sure your File As... fields are all in the format you want to use. Then set the Outlook Address Book to sort by the File As... field he Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing directories or address books Outlook Address Book Change.
