You can't. Masking of phone numbers is hard coded. I've never encountered a
need to change the format. What makes you think you need to?

When I bluetooth the phone numbers to my cell phone the "(" and ")" and "-"
are unwanted and cause problems. Why can't I decide for myself how I want my
phone numbers formatted.

As I thought. Your problem is with your synchronization software, not
Outlook. Outlook cannot vary its format because it must present a consistent
interface to the myriad programs that would attempt to synch with it.

The sync software works fine - it inports the phone numbers (and added
characters)into the cell phone accurately. It is the cell phone and me that
have problems with the added characters. I personnally don't like the the
format and I woulld like to be able to change it even if it didn' cause
problems in my cell phone. Why does there have to be a unchangeable format
for phone numbers? Is there any possible way to change the format or fake
outlook out?

I explained why Outlook must maintain a consistent format for phone numbers.
There is no supported way to "fake" Outlook out. Interestingly, some users
who forget to set their default dialing location for their OS have reported
that Outlook will not mask their phone numbers. For most users who do that,
however, Outlook won't let you enter new Contacts without prompting you
incessantly for your dialing location.
