Default Distribution List to Contact List

I created a distribution list. However, when I added people to my
distribution list (using the 'add new' button) I did not also add them to my
contact list. Now I have many people in my distribution list.

How do I add them to my contact list without copy/paste each one individually?

You can't. If you wanted to add them to your Contacts, you should have done
so. Obviously, "Add New..." adds them only to the DL.

Save the DL as a .txt file. Open it in Notepad and remove non-address lines and any addresses that are already in Contacts. Save the file. Import it into Outlook contacts as a tab-delimited file.

Default Distribution List to Contact List

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have done all the steps you suggested. However, when I try to import it
into Outlook, I run into some problems.

After I select the destination folder as 'Contacts', I click on the next
button, and the screen reads:

the following actions will be performed:

Import 'MyNewAddresses.txt' into folder: Contacts

I assume I am supposed to click the next button, but it is not highlighted
for me to click. At this stage, I am only able to click on the back and
cancel buttons

Please advise as to what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,
Michael

You should see a Map Custom Fields button at some point and will need to use that to tell Outlook *how* to import the data. Also, did you specify that you're importing a tab-delimited file?

Sue,

Yes, I specified that I was importing a Tab Separated Values (Windows) file
type.

On the screen that states "Import 'MyNewAddresses.txt' into folder: Contacts"

As well as the next button not being highlighted, there is a Map Custom
Fields button that is not highlighted either.

I do not know if this info will help, but I am using MS Outlook 2003.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Michael

Did you check the check box to the left of the listed import action?
