I recently exported my contact file to a .csv file because I had a problem
with my computer and the hard drive had to be reformatted. Now that I am back up and running, Outlook cannot import the .csv file it originally exported. I received a message saying the file was not recognized. It went on to say that the "Comma Separated Values (Windows) translator was unable to recognize this file. It could be the wrong file, a version of the file type that is not supported by this translator, or the file might be corrupt." I was able to open the file in Excel, so I saved it as an Excel file and tried to import that into Outlook. I then received an error stating that the file has "no named ranges. Use Microsoft Excel to name the range of data you want to import." I'm not sure how to do that. I have Office XP (Outlook 2002 SP3 version). Any ideas why I cannot import the .csv file Outlook created back into it? Or can some tell me how to import the Excel file I created from it. I don't want to have to recreate almost 300 contacts. Thanks in advance. |

Really strange that Outlook wouldn't recognize the CSV file if Excel opens
it correctly. Two choices: #1 - To import from Excel, highlight all applicable rows and columns including the first header row and assign it a "Name". From the menu bar in Excel Insert -- Name -- Define -- give this highlighted dataset a name, save the worksheet and do the import again #2 - try re-saving the worksheet as a CSV file again from within Excel and re-import the file again making sure that you select the correct file type. One of the above is sure to work barring any other issues with the data itself Karl __________________________________________________ ___________ ContactGenie - Importer 1.3 / DataPorter 2.0 / Exporter "Power contact importers/exporters for MS Outlook '2000/2003" http://www.contactgenie.com "MoonStar" wrote in message ... Thanks. I was finally able to import late last night after a few more tries.
I had to resave my file as an Excel file and work from that. It took three more tries after I followed the directions here. I still don't know why Outlook would not import the .csv file it originally exported. I find importing to Outlook more difficult that it should be.
